By the author of How to Catch a Star and Lost and Found, comes The Incredible Book Eating Boy. I really enjoyed this book. I kept seeing it from a distance and finally decided to take one home with me. I am glad I did because I adore the illustrations. They are painted and drawn on different kinds of paper, book pages, exercise book paper and canvas. They are amusing and interesting pictures. Great noses (as a Jew, I could be considered an authority on great noses).
The book's content was not a surprise at the outset. The title, one might think, says it all. But the book eating business does run a muck and Henry, the hero, decides to read books instead. It does take longer than digesting them whole, but he acclimatizes.
It is a charming book. I live with 5 great readers but one of those five is a book eater. And day by day, I notice him becoming more intelligent. I always joke that he was born with a book in his hand. But he is rarely found without one attached. When people look back on their childhood and muse over all that free time, they often regret. Youth is wasted on children. But for great book readers, it is the only time in your life, until you retire, that you have more time than you need to read for pleasure. I encourage it, advise it and admire great youthful readers. Good luck and well done.
Good post.
